In the morning of the 11th September 2001 19 terrorists of the al-Qaeda network hijacked 4 in-land flights.

Two of those planes where kidnapped by 5 persons each. The fist one crashed at 8:46 into WTC 1. (AA flight 11)
Sixteen minutes later (09:02) UA flight 175 crashed into the southern tower (WTC 2).

The exploding kerosene started various fires on many floors.

At 9:59 the southern tower (WTC 2) collapsed within nine seconds. From 10:06 the NYFD and NYPD expected the WTC 1 to collapse. It started to collapse at 10:23 and broke apart at 10:28 in just 12 seconds.
In WTC 1 16 people survived in Stairwell B between the first and 22nd floor.

Flight AA77 and Flight UA93

After ten of the 19 terrorists where in their planes the crew of Hani Handschur started their hijack. They hijacked flight AA77 and flew it at 09:37 into the Pentagon. All 64 passengers and 125 persons within the Pentagon where killed.
Also Ziad Jarrah's crew hijacked a plane. But they couldn't reach their target because of a revolt in the plane. Flight UA93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The Plan was it to destroy the Twin Towers, damage the Pentagon and destroy the White House or the Capitol.

    1. National September 11 Memorial and Museum

    The National September 11 Memorial and Museum is located at the exact place where the Twin Towers stood.
    The memorial honored the 2983 killed people that where killed at the 11th September 2001 and the six people that were killed at the 26th February 1993.

    Around the walls of the water basins all of the 2983 names are written.

    In 2006 the build begun and took until spring 2014.
    In the museum underneath the memorial you can see 40.000 images, 14.000 things and you can hear 3.500 audio files. Also there are more than 500 hours of videos to watch.
    Also there is a mausoleum where non-identified body parts are stored safely.

    2. Pentagon Memorial

    The Pentagon-Memorial is right in front of the Pentagon where the plane hit.
    After the rebuild of the historical Pentagon-wall was finished, the memorial started to grow. There are 189 lighted benches. Every bench has one name graved in.

    Inside the Pentagon a memorial room was build to show the biography of the killed people at the 11th September 2001.

    The memorial costs over 22 million US-Dollars.

    3. Tribute in Light

    Every year at the 11th September 88 xenon lights are pointing right in the sky at the water basins of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.
    In the first 8 years there were just two searchlights pointing in the sky. But when the 9/11 memorial was finished, those light were planted into it.

    4. Flight 93 National Memorial

    The Flight 93 National Memorial is a 8.9km² closed area. Only family members of the victims were allowed until 2015. After 2015 everybody can visit the memorial. Every year 150.000 people are visiting the area next to Shanksville.

    The main part is a stone wall with the names of the 40 passengers. You will not find the names of the terrorists there.
